We ended up in Hong Kong at a refugee camp, where we would stay for two years.
The refugee camp was also a terrible place to be, but at least it wasn’t the war torn Vietnam.
After two years, a letter arrived to the refugee camp from a church in Houston Texas. This church, and their generous members sponsored my family to come to the US where we were able to begin our life.
We moved into Section 8 housing in Fresno, California where my father had some friends.
My father supported us in America by working as a migrant field worker. My sisters and I would help him throughout High School.
After five years of this, my father started a landscaping service. He bootstrapped the company from the ground up, and build it into a thriving business which moved my family into the middle class.
This business helped paved the way for me to get my Doctorate In Pharmacy and my other siblings to all get their college educations.
My father really lived the American Dream and created opportunity for my siblings and I.
